A 51-year-old Hamilton man was arrested on child porn charges in central Hamilton Friday morning, police say.
The National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre alerted members of the Hamilton Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit that a man in Hamilton had been chatting and sending child porn images to a person in Australia during an undisclosed time period.
Police executed a search warrant at a central Hamilton address in February 2013. A child was removed from the home and the Children's Aid society was notified, police say. Police Const. Debbie McGreal-Dinning would not say if any arrests were made at that point, or if the child was related to anyone in the home.
Police continued the investigation and executed another search warrant on a computer seized from a second home, and after a forensic examination, a Hamilton man was arrested Monday morning.
The 51-year-old Hamilton man was arrested and charged with Possession of Child Pornography. Police will not release his name as "it may identify child victims."
A bail hearing is scheduled for April 5.
