LCBO workers are scheduled to hold "information pickets" outside stores in several Ontario cities on Friday while they bargain with provincial ownership.
Pickets are scheduled from noon until 1 p.m. at LCBO stores in Hamilton, Toronto, London, Peterborough, Ottawa, Sudbury and Thunder Bay.
On April 9, LCBO workers voted 95 per cent in favour of a strike if contract talks break down. The employees' contract with management expired on March 31. Talks are still ongoing.
The union says their main sticking points are wages and benefits, job security and improved health and safety standards.
Last week, Ontario Public Service Workers Union spokesman Greg Hamara says there are no plans to walk off the job and that customers shouldn't worry about going dry.
"There's no effect on customers in the short or medium term and we just have to see where our negotiations are going. It is not our intention to strike, we do not bargain to strike."
LCBO spokesperson Sally Ritchie told CBC Hamilton that workers do have the right to hold these pickets, but questioned the union's timing.
"We do question the value of doing so at this stage," Ritchie said. "We believe the focus should be at the bargaining table at this point."
