A man was shot in east Hamilton early Tuesday morning in what police are calling a possible "targeted" incident.

The 23-year-old man was shot around 1:15 a.m., near the intersection of Barton Street East and Ottawa Street North in east Hamilton.

Police spokesperson Debbie McGreal-Dinning said she didn't know how the victim made it to hospital. She described his injuries as "non-life-threatening."

As of 10:25 a.m. on Tuesday, police hadn't released any information about potential suspects.

Division Two detectives continue to investigate.
