A first-floor fire at a single family home on Mohawk Road East and Upper Wellington Street caused an estimated $100,000 in damage and stalled traffic Tuesday morning as seven fire trucks battled the flames.
No one was injured in the fire as none of the residents were home at the time, according to Claudio Mostacci, public information officer for the Hamilton Fire Department. After being alerted to the fire when a passerby noticed smoke billowing out of the house, firefighters arrived on scene and forced entry into the building. They have extinguished the fire.
Westbound traffic on Mohawk Road East was stalled during the morning commute as pump trucks blocked a lane, but traffic has been restored as most of the units have now left the scene, Mostacci said.
The cause of the fire is not yet determined and fire crews are still investigating, Mostacci said.
