The police homicide unit is still trying to piece together how a man was stabbed in the east end of the city early Saturday.
Around 4 a.m. that morning, a female 911 caller pointed police to a man who had been stabbed. Original reports by police said officers were sent to Faircourt Drive, but they were actually sent to 18 Centennial Parkway S., which backs on to Faircourt Drive.
When officers arrived they found Charles Jankevicius, 22, who was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The woman who called police was nowhere to be found.
According to a media release, Jankevicius is presently in intensive care at Hamilton General Hospital in serious condition. Early Saturday, police had described the man's injuries as non-life threatening.
Det. Sgt. Matt Kavanagh, who is in charge of the case, could not be reached Sunday morning to comment on why Jankevicius' condition was upgraded.
Police say they have interviewed several people at the scene of the stabbing. "As a result of these statements and the injury to the victim, the homicide unit was called in at approximately 4:30 p.m.," the release states.
Officers are currently searching for people they believe were at the scene. Police expect to be at the house for most of the day Sunday.
Members of the public with any information on this case are being asked to call Sgt. Paul Hamilton at 905 546 3825.
