Paula Fancey has one big item on her Christmas wishlist — a bit more help for her neighbours Ron Wong and Melissa Ryerse, whose east-end rental house was gutted by a fire in early December.
The couple, who have five young children, lost most of their possessions — including clothes, family photos, toys and Christmas gifts — in the blaze.
They had no insurance.
Fancey and her friend Vanessa St. Pierre have spearheaded a fundraising campaign to help the Wongs, who are currently living with Ron's mother in a 1.5-storey bungalow.
The Wongs are set to move into a new house on Jan. 2, Fancey said, but still require furniture and other basic necessities.
"People have to managed to donate a lot clothes-wise and present-wise," she said.
"We've collected enough for first and last months' rent, but we still need money for beds for the kids."
"Just if we could get that extra boost, that would do a great deal."
She has set up a bank account at CIBC for the Wong family: Transit #03862, Account #8709491.
