One man's robbery spree was cut short Wednesday when he opted to jump into a cab for his getaway car.

Around 12:30 a.m., a man entered the Tim Hortons at 135 Bay St. N, said he had a gun and demanded cash, police say.

Staff handed some money over and the man fled.

Then around 6 a.m. the same day, the same man entered the Metro at 845 King St. W, approached one of the cashiers and again demanded cash.

The man was holding a newspaper and told the cashier he had a knife in it, police say. The clerk handed over some cash and the man fled.

Then around noon the same day, the man entered the A&W at 194 King St. W, told the cashier he had a knife and again demanded money, police say.

The cashier complied and the man left the store and got into a cab. A description of the man and the cab was then broadcast to all Hamilton officers.

Police stopped the cab around Bay Street and York Boulevard.

A 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with three counts of robbery. He was held for a bail hearing scheduled for Thursday.
