Hamilton police are investigating two separate bank robberies that took place Tuesday morning.

The first took place at the TD Bank at 1565 Upper James St. around 7 a.m. According to police, two employees were arriving at work before the bank had opened when two men, armed with guns and clad in balaclavas, approached them.

The suspects forced the employees inside and stole cash from the bank before fleeing in an unknown direction, police said. Police have yet to locate the suspects, who are described as black males, 19-25 years old, wearing hoodies and dark balaclavas.

The second robbery occurred a few hours later at the Bank of Montreal on Queenston Rd., police said. A man entered the bank and vaulted over the counter before snatching some cash. He made a comment that suggested he may have a weapon, according to Sgt. Terri-Lynn Collings.

"It was enough to make the staff feel like he might be armed," she said.

The suspect ran out of the bank and fled on foot towards Parkdale Ave. The suspect is still at large and is described as a white man, 35 years old, tanned and wearing a maroon sweater.

The HPS BEAR unit continues to investigate both cases.
