Hamilton spring fog and rain

Freezing rain heading into thunderstorms are part of the Hamilton forecast (Nathan Denette Canadian Press)

The sun in Hamilton Thursday morning is expected to give way to a windy, rainy day that could bring a thunderstorm later in the afternoon.

Environment Canada issued a special weather alert for the city advising of the conditions coming our way thanks to a low pressure system moving through Southern Ontario.

The national weather service is not predicting severe thunderstorms. About 25 mm of rain could fall in a short period of time.

Thursday's high is expected to be 16 C with a 60 per cent chance of showers in the late afternoon. Winds are expected to gust between 50 km/h and 70 km/h. A few showers with a risk of a thunderstorm are also expected in the evening. The temperature will drop to 4 C.

Rain is expected again on Friday, with possible wet snow in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday.
