A 35-year-old Stoney Creek man has been charged with careless driving and not having the right tires on his GMC cargo van after he crossed into oncoming traffic lanes, jumped the curb and a sidewalk on Highway 7/8 and slammed into the corner of an antique store, causing extensive damage.
The Ontario Provincial Police responded to the incident in Shakespeare just after 10 a.m. Tuesday.
The driver was the only person in the vehicle and was not injured. But the antique store, the Glen Manor Gallery, didn't make out so well: It was "extensively damaged," OPP said.
Police charged the driver with careless driving, driving with improper tires and driving without a current licence.
