Hamiltonians can expect a slippery morning commute as freezing rain is expected to fall early Wednesday morning.

Environment Canada says "a developing low pressure area originating in Colorado is forecast to track across the Central Great Lakes on Wednesday." The national weather agency says freezing rain will arrive early Wednesday morning over Southwestern Ontario and spread northeastwards through the morning.

The freezing rain is expected to last for a few hours and Environment Canada predicts hazardous driving conditions. The agency says two to five millimetres of ice accumulation is also possible.

The freezing rain will become rain as the day warms. Environment Canada says it expects to issue a freezing rain warning later today.
