Red Hill lawsuit drags on, #shovegate and more: Daystarter Thursday

The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a "historical incident" in Hamilton because local police have a conflict of interest. They won't say if it actually is about "shovegate" at city hall, although the victim already says the OPP has contacted him. Read more about the story here.

If you needed a different story out of council, the Red Hill Valley Parkway lawsuit between the city and the federal government has reached a cost of more than $3-million in legal fees for Hamilton. The city launched the lawsuit back in 2003, and both sides of this taxpayer-funded dispute have amassed more than $5-million in legal fees.

There are no delays on GO Transit routes from Hamilton to Toronto.

Despite the brisk morning that feels like -22 C, Thursday's forecast is for a mix of sun and cloud and a high of -10 C. Winter still has a firm grasp on March, and the overnight is expected to dip down to -18 C before slightly warning up Friday, with a high of -6 C.

The weekend will see temperatures closer to the freezing point, with Saturday's high of -1 C and Sunday's high of 0 C.

OPP is investigating a "historical incident" in Hamilton, but they won't say if it is the 2014 shoving incident between Coun. Llyod Ferguson and journalist Joey Coleman. They did say they were called to investigate by Hamilton Police because of an apparent conflict of interest. Ferguson is chair of the Police Service Board.

The city has spent more than $3-million in a lawsuit it started with the federal government over the application of the environmental act on the land which is now occupied by the Red Hill Valley Parkway. Councillors just want the lawsuit to end.
