The man charged in the death of Hamilton teen Harmanjit Singh is suspected of several weapons offences, police say.
In February, Dashminder Deol, 37, was arrested and charged with manslaughter and offering an indignity to human remains.
On Thursday, he, as well as Gurminder Deol, 34, were charged with a number of weapons charges dating back to a Nov. 6, 2014 search of a Stoney Creek home found a pair of unlawfully possessed firearms and ammunition.
Police cautioned that "there has been no evidence obtained to believe that the firearms had played any role in the disappearance or death of Harmanjit Singh," in a press release.
Singh's body was found floating in a flood basin in Stoney Creek in late November.
Previously, Det. Sgt. Joe Stewart of the homicide unit would not reveal how Singh died, saying that it would come out in the court system. "But I do not believe there was an intent to kill Singh in this incident," he said in late February when charges of manslaughter and offering an indignity to human remains were laid against Deol.
Singh, 19, disappeared on Oct. 27 after spending time at a friend's home on the east Mountain the night before. Police subsequently searched the home as part of the investigation.
According to the Hamilton Spectator, Deol lived in the home. Stewart would not confirm that police had searched Deol's home, only saying officers had searched "various places as well as a vehicle."
