Drinking and driving was the cause of a fatal car crash in Stoney Creek that killed a man and a woman back in November, police announced Thursday.

It happened just before 10 p.m. on Nov. 14, when emergency crews were called to a serious, single car crash on South Service Road just west of Dewitt Road.

The 35-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 26-year-old woman who was in the car with him was rushed to hospital, but died shortly after.

Toxicology reports from the Centre of Forensic Science confirm that alcohol was the cause of the crash. The investigation is now finished and no charges will be laid, police say.

These two people were the city's 14th and 15th traffic deaths of 2014.
