It's a long weekend in Hamilton, but it'll be a bitterly cold one as well, Environment Canada says.

After Friday set a cold weather record for Feb. 13, Saturday and Sunday will also feature extreme cold temperatures due to a mass of Arctic air.

Saturday's high is set for -7 C, but the temperature will sink to -14 C in the afternoon and then plunge to -21 C by the evening with a biting windchill of -31 C.

Sunday's high is -18 C, with a mix of sun and cloud and more wind.  Environment Canada didn't make a wind chill prediction, but said "gusty northerly winds combining with the very low temperatures will likely result in extreme wind chills."

Environment Canada said an Alberta Clipper will also bring some snow to Hamilton on Saturday, though just 2-4 centimetres are set to fall this time.

The agency said extreme cold warnings may be issued on Saturday afternoon.

Environment Canada urges people to check the forecast before heading out for any outdoor activities.
