The city has issued a cold weather alert for Monday night.
The Medical Officer of Health issues cold weather alerts when weather conditions are expected to be at or below -15 C, or -20 C with wind chill.
Temperatures are expected to fall to -7 C on Monday afternoon, dropping to -19 C overnight. The wind chill will fall to -27 C.
The snow will end Monday afternoon, then be cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries. About five centimetres is expected to fall, with winds reaching 20 kilometres per hour early in the afternoon.
Weather overnight will be partly cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries early this evening, then clear skies. Winds will be 20 kilometres per hour becoming light late this evening.
The alert is in effect until the city cancels it.
When cold weather alerts happen, the city notifies community agencies who work with vulnerable and homeless people. Each of these agencies, including the Salvation Army, have policies and procedures regarding cold weather.
