Hamilton Police seized 213 illegal knives from vendors at this past weekend's Festival of Friends.

Police were particularly concerned because the knives were easily accessible to festival-goers walking by the display and that the vendor selling knives and swords was directly across from the festival's beer tent.

The interest from police, prompted by the worry of mixing suds with swords, revealed the vendo had 147 illegal switchblades.

Hamilton's Division 3 High Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) unit inspected two other vendors selling knives at the free, three-day summer music festival after the spring-loaded blades were first found. One vendor was clean of any illegal knives, while another turned up an additional 66 switchblades, bringing the total to 213 illegal knives seized by Hamilton Police.

Police say Division 3 detectives are investigating if the vendors "knowingly" committed any offences.
