Hamilton weather, traffic and more: Daystarter Friday

Written By Unknown on Jumat, 20 Juni 2014 | 22.46

Rejoice, Hamilton — it's Friday, and we're about to head into a sunny, warm weekend.

Did you know that on this date in 1877, Alexander Graham Bell installed the world's first commercial telephone in Hamilton? We've come pretty far in just a couple hundred years.

If you're looking to get gas this morning, the cheapest price in the area is 134.9 at Costco at 100 Legend Court near Golf Links Road in Ancaster.

Lots of new movies out in theatres this weekend too — including Clint Eastwood's version of the Tony Award-winning musical Jersey Boys and Mila Kunis' Third Person.

The Union Station 7:13 a.m. to Aldershot 8:16 a.m. GO train is delayed by just over five minutes this morning.

For anyone taking a GO Bus into Toronto, remember that construction on the Gardiner Expressway will cause delays.

Here are the issues police are reporting on area roads:

  • Hwy 403 EB at Mohawk Rd, Ancaster: Deer walking on the highway and wondering on the right side of the highway. 9 a.m.

Today will be mainly sunny with increasing cloudiness near noon. High 22 C except 19 C near Lake Ontario. UV index 9 or very high.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a low of 12 C.

Expect sunny skies on Saturday with a high of 23 C, except 19 near lake Ontario.

It's time for Hamilton's downtown shops to stay open later to serve the area's many new residents — and help attract more of them.

That's the plea from Glen Norton, the manager of urban renewal in the city's planning and economic development department. He says with a host of new condo developments springing open in the next few years downtown, it's time for businesses to keep their doors open later to help draw people into all those units.

And the company behind the Tivoli condo project is proposing a "mechanized car stacker" to solve the development's future parking problems.

The developers are proposing a 22-storey development at the old Tivoli Theatre, on James Street North, which could see as many as 65 condos in addition to commercial space and the restored theatre. But with more developments happening in the James North area, parking is increasingly an issue.

Here is what happens when 58 musicians from countries around the world get together to play The Verve's hit Bittersweet Symphony:
