Four Hamilton teens face charges after a woman was held up with a replica pellet gun and robbed of her purse.
Around 12:50 a.m. on Thursday, a silver Honda Civic drove up to a 26-year-old woman walking on Hess Street North at Peter Street.
A driver and a passenger, both male, jumped out of the car and approached the woman, said Hamilton police spokeswoman Debbie McGreal-Dinning in a Thursday news release.
She said the passenger held a gun wrapped in cloth to the victim's abdomen. The driver, McGreal-Dinning said, snatched the woman's purse from her shoulder, and then both assailants darted back into the car.
The woman watched the vehicle drive away and then flagged down a 43-year-old male driver to ask for help. He called police, and the victim was able to relay the Honda's licence plate number and a description of her attackers.
Police then responded to the scene and interviewed the victim, who was shaken but uninjured after the robbery.
About 30 minutes after responding to the call, a police officer saw the Honda driving near the intersection of Main Street West and Hess Street South.
Other units provided backup and police were able to stop the car.
Officers drew their guns and ordered the suspects out of the vehicles, McGreal-Dinning said.
A driver and three occupants were arrested "without incident," she said.
Police recovered the purse and a replica .357 replica Magnum pellet gun. They also determined that the Honda had been stolen.
All four males, who range in age from 15 to 17, have been charged with robbery with an imitation firearm. The driver, a 16-year-old male, faces one count of possession under $5,000, while the three passengers have been charged with occupying a motor vehicle without consent.
The youth, all from Hamilton, were held for a bail hearing.
