Hamilton Daystarter: Everything you need to know Monday

Written By Unknown on Senin, 12 Mei 2014 | 22.46

Good morning, Hamilton! Yes, it's Monday — but it's also sunny and spring-like, so that eases the pain, right?

If you're looking to has up this morning, the lowest prices in the city are listed at $123.3 at Pioneer at both the Upper Gage and Crockett and the Fennell Avenue East and Glenford Avenue locations.

GO Transit is reporting a couple of delays on train lines this morning: the Union Station 7:13 a.m. to Aldershot 8:16 a.m. train is delayed by just over eight minutes, while the Hamilton GO Centre 7:15 a.m. to Union Station 8:32 a.m. is delayed by just over six minutes.

The Ministry of Transportation has begun repairs on the Waterdown Road Bridge by Aldershot GO Station. All ramps and exits remain open, but two–way traffic has been somewhat restricted. GO Transit recommends you allow for extra time entering and leaving the station.

Police aren't reporting any issues on roads going to or from Hamilton this morning — but expect delays heading into Toronto because of ongoing construction on the Gardiner Expressway.

Today's forecast calls for clouds with a 40 per cent chance of showers this afternoon and the risk of a thunderstorm. Today's high is 23 C.

Tonight will be cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers early in the evening. Expect showers with a few thunderstorms beginning this evening, and fog patches developing late this evening. Low 13 C.

Expect showers and thunderstorms tomorrow with a high of 19 C.

Tonight at 6 p.m., the school board standing committee hears report from the West Glanbrook Accommodation Review. Bell Stone in west Glanbrook is slated for closure.

Reporter Samantha Craggs will be at the meeting, and you can follow along with the debate on Twitter.

And in case you missed it: a test that puts patients into cardiac arrest to find out if their new heart device is working is redundant and even harmful, new research out of McMaster University suggests. Patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), a device that paces fast heart rates with a electrical shock, are routinely sedated and put into cardiac arrest to ensure the new device has the power to bring the patient back to life.

Known as defibrillator testing (DT), the test has been around for 30 years for the some 300,000 ICDs inserted worldwide every year. But noticing that some physicians, particularly in Canada, had stopped performing the potentially harmful test, McMaster associate professor of medicine Jeff Healey decided to look into if modern technology has made the routine redundant.

Motorcyclist Alex Chacon makes all of your selfies look ridiculously lame in this compilation — a 360-degree spin in over 36 countries with a GoPro on a stick. The video was shot over two years in some of the most remote and exotic areas on Earth.
