gritLIT

Established in 2004, gritLIT started as a small festival of readings, but since it has grown into a much larger-scale celebration of Hamilton's best literature. From April 3 to April 6, literature fans can enjoy a full weekend of readings. Individual event tickets are $10 and can be purchased on EventBrite, or at the door of each event. Session passes (two events) are $15 and are valid for both events in a single day.

HamilTEN Festival

Now on its third year, the HamilTEN Festival is back at The Pearl Company (16 Steven Rd.) with some drama and comedy. Each play is only 10 minutes long, and each writer is from Hamilton and area. Tickets are $10.  Shows begin at 8:00 p.m on Sunday.

Southern Ontario Spring Women's Show and Sale

Shop 'till you drop and find everything including fashion shows, guest speakers, free makeovers, breast screening, dermatology, travel ideas, financial advice, fashion clearance, cosmetics, hairstyling and so much more. This event will take place at the Careport Centre at 270 Longwood Rd. Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door.

Maple Leaf Monster Jam 2014

Dozens of Monster Jam trucks will come to Hamilton this weekend, and the 12ft-tall and 12ft-wide vehicles will compete against each other in racing and freestyle competitions. The two-day event will take place at FirstOntario Place. Tickets start at $20 for adults and $15 for kids. They can be purchased online at monsterjam.com. Shows begin at 2 p.m. both days.

Inc. Squared

Hamilton Artists Inc. is holding a fundraiser where artwork from local artists will be sold at a fraction of the price: $100 each. The event will also feature music and dancing. It will take place at Hamilton Artists Inc. (155 James St. N) on Saturday April 5 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 at the door.

Worldview Stages of Autism Conference: Adolescence and Beyond

The conference is the only Canadian Autism Spectrum Disorder event focusing on adolescence through adulthood. It's hosted by non-profit organization Woodview Mental Health and Autism Services and takes place April 7 and 8 from 7:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. each day. The conference is at the Sheraton Hamilton, 116 King Street W.Tickets range from $125 to $440. Breakfast and lunch is included.
