Three masked men staged an armed robbery at a Hamilton Mountain convenience store on Friday evening, police say.

Around 8:50 p.m., three men entered a shop at 538 Upper James St., said acting Staff Sgt. Dave LeClair of the Hamilton Police Service.

One man was carrying a weapon, he said. LeClair wouldn't describe it, but said the weapon used wasn't a gun or a knife.

Sensing danger, the "store owners secured themselves in a backroom," he said.

They were not injured.

The suspects made off with goods or an amount of cash, LeClair said, adding investigators are working to determining exactly what was taken.

He gave the following suspect descriptions for the three men:

  • Suspect 1: Man in his 20s, stocky build, wearing a dark-coloured hooded sweatshirt and black shorts
  • Suspect 2: Man in his 20s, slim build, wearing a dark-coloured hooded sweatshirt and black pants
  • Suspect 3: Man in his 20s, stocky build, wearing a black winter coat and black shorts with white trim

Police ask anyone with information on the robbery to call the Division Three front desk at 905-546-4930 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
