Police are zeroing in on at least two suspects in Hamilton after a high-speed chase early Monday that involved a helicopter, a stolen vehicle and a break and enter for video games.
The incident started at the EB Games store near Bathurst Street and Centre Street in Thornhill, York Regional Police official Sgt. Clint Whitney told CBC Hamilton. Police responded after a security alarm in the building was tripped around 3:15 a.m.
A York police helicopter spotted two suspects running out of the store before taking off in a stolen Honda Civic. The chopper trailed the suspects from the air while police cars kept pace from a distance as the Civic reached speeds of 180 km/h.

"The suspects just refused to stop," Whitney said. The chase went on across the GTA on Highway 407 to the 400 and then on to Highway 25 in Milton, where Halton police officers deployed a spike strip to try and stop the car.
"Unfortunately, it was unsuccessful," Whitney said. At this point, the ground chase was called off for public safety reasons while the helicopter followed the suspects from above.
At one point, the suspects even stopped for gas – while being videotaped from above the entire time. The chase from above resumed when they peeled away from the gas station without paying. "That's been captured on camera as well," Whitney said.
The Civic sped along a various back roads down to the QEW and into Hamilton. The suspects bailed on the vehicle and ran into an apartment building on Jarvis Street, Whitney says. "We hope to make an arrest in the near future," he said. Hamilton police are assisting with the search for the suspects.
Police recovered the vehicle and found stolen video games and game consoles worth about $3,000 in the backseat. The EB Games location at Centre and Bathurst was broken into just a week ago, according to police.
It's not unusual for the York police helicopter to be called in on a chase like this, Whitney said.
"Our helicopter is routinely on patrol."
