Hamilton Daystarter: Everything you need to know Thursday

Good morning, Hamilton.

Surely you're preparing — at least mentally — for the first long weekend of spring.

If you need any help with that, here's some food for thought: after this week's short spell of winter-like cold, sun and 17 C is in the forecast for one day this weekend. The others don't look terrible either. 

How's that for an Easter treat?

GO Transit isn't reporting any major delays on its train and bus routes running in and out of Hamilton.

Ontario Provincial Police are reporting the following delays on Hamilton-area highways:

• Highway 403 eastbound at Aberdeen, Hamilton, two-car collision, no-injuries, vehicles off to the right shoulder, 7:20 a.m.

Hamiltonians woke up to temperatures around –3 C on Thursday morning. The wintry chill will usher in spring-like conditions as the day wears on. Environment Canada says a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 12 C are in the forecast for Thursday. 

Friday is expected to be mainly cloudy, with a few showers in the afternoon ending in the evening. A high of 10 C is in store for the first day of the long weekend.

In case you missed it, councillors on the city's general issues committee had a big day Wednesday, voting on several hot-button issues. In addition, they approved a motion to sell an infamous former crack den and decided to invite Ontario transportation minister to city hall to defend his tough talk on LRT. Also, one councillor put forward a proposal to develop a timeline for opening nine one-way streets in the downtown to two-way traffic.
