Hamilton Daystarter: Everything you need to know Wednesday

Written By Unknown on Rabu, 02 April 2014 | 22.46

So it's cold again this morning.

Hamilton woke up to temperatures around –2 C on Wednesday morning, possibly sparking fears that winter crept back into our lives.

But don't worry — it hasn't. A high around or slightly north of 8 C and a mixture of sun and cloud is in store for Wednesday.

And keep your umbrella handy for the rest of the week.

Spring is here, indeed.

GO Transit isn't reporting any major delays on its trains or buses running in and out of Hamilton.

Ontario Provincial Police are reporting the following collisions in the Hamilton area:

  • Hwy 403 EB at Mohawk Rd., Ancaster: two-vehicle collision on the right shoulder and left lane is blocked, no injuries — 8:11 a.m.

After a chilly morning, temperatures are set to warm up to 8-10 C. Environment Canada calls for a cloudy morning with skies clearing later on in the day.

Prepare for a spell of April showers before the weekend. Sunny skies and a high of 2 C are expected for much of Thursday. Environment Canada says there will be increasing cloudiness in the evening with a 40 per chance of showers late in the evening.

Friday is set to be a wet one. Showers and a high of 8 C are in the forecast, so dress accordingly.

What's going to happen to the old Copps Coliseum signage? The decades-old fixtures came down in mark when the arena was renamed FirstOntario Place. But the city suggests at least a good chunk of the hardware isn't headed to the trash heap. There's even a good chance you might be able to buy your own piece of Hamilton history.

Also, the city's largest brownfield redevelopment project is closer to moving ahead. Councillors voted Tuesday to draft a subdivision plan for the Freeman Industrial Park, located at 440 Victoria St. N. Situated just north of Hamilton General Hospital, the site of the old Studebaker and Otis Elevator plants. Building firm UrbanCore Developments wants to divide the 10.5-hectare property into 18 lots and build a road through the site.

Spring is here, and it's definitely sprung in Nicole Morton's gardens. Mike Brown snapped a photo of the welcome sight and posted it to Instagram.

And photographer Herb Fodor sent this picture of the sunrise over Hamilton's north end on April 1. It was a beautiful one, no fooling.

April Fools Day is over, but the laughs are still going. Here's a video, released yesterday, of Westjet vice-president of communication Richard Bartrem pulling a fast one on Canadians.
