Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Hamilton and the GTA. Freezing rain is expected Wednesday.

It should make for a cautious morning commute.

It was –5 C as of 7 a.m. in Hamilton Tuesday morning, with an expected high of 5 C. Mostly clear skies are expected Tuesday.

A low-pressure system is set to arrive from the U.S. on Wednesday and may bring freezing rain to Lake Huron east to the Golden Horseshoe and Central Ontario.

The band of freezing rain will change over to rain during the day on Wednesday as temperatures climb above the zero degree mark. A high of 6 C is expected on Wednesday.

The special weather statement also affects Niagara, Toronto, Halton, Peel, York and Durham.
