2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic 11:59:59

It's not just people in Canada and the U.S. gearing up for the Winter Classic on New Year's Day. A former Hamilton hockey player and his fellow U.S. soldiers are as well.

Hamilton-born Captain Matt Donofrio is a Leafs fan. First Sergeant Anthony Meyers of Michigan is a Red Wings fan. The two are stationed in Kuwait.

In anticipation of Wednesday's game, they painted "Winter Classic 2014" on their tank. They'll also be up in the middle of the night to try to catch some of the game online.

The Winter Classic starts at 1 p.m. Jan. 1. You can watch it on the CBC or stream it by clicking the video box at the top of the page.
