Hamilton Daystarter: Everything you need to know Thursday

Written By Unknown on Kamis, 16 Januari 2014 | 22.46

The snow is back and its getting colder again. There's a nice, light dusting on the ground and we're getting back into the winter feeling. I saw some men backing skis into their van early this morning, getting ready to hit the slopes. Now, they've got the right idea.

Feeling like -10 C for your walk to work this morning. Get ready for some flurries later on, Hamilton.

Speaking of skiing, we're 22 days away from the Sochi Winter games (watch it all on CBC!) and the alpine team will be announced later today. Watch live on CBC News Network or follow cbcsports.ca for updates.

Award season is in full swing. If you're a cinephile, you'll want to tune in at 8:30 a.m. when the Oscar nominees are announced from Los Angeles.

No issues to report on GO Transit service from Hamilton this morning.

At 8:30 a.m.:

In town, the West 5th access is slow moving downwards towards the lower city. John Street is also backed up coming off the Jolley Cut until Main Street.

At 8:00 a.m.:

Still slow on the QEW Toronto-bound between Walkers Line and Bronte Road. Highways are otherwise moving fine.

In town, the on-ramp to the 403 from the LINC is really backed up. Expect a delay there.

The Jolley Cut is clearing up this hour.

At 7:30 a.m.:

On Highway 6 in Puslinch at Gore Road in the southbound lane (heading towards Hamilton), a car is in the ditch and an ambulance en route.

Again this morning, the stretch between Walkers Line and Bronte Road on the QEW Toronto-bound is starting to get a little heavy.

In town, the Jolley Cut is starting to get a bit backed up alright. If you're leaving shortly, you can consider taking a different access route.

The on-ramp from the LINC to to 403 is also traffic-heavy.

It's -5 C right now, but feels like -10 C with the wind chill. A high of -3 C.

There's a dusting of snow on the ground this morning and more flurries are expected throughout the morning.

Overnight, cloudy, snow beginning again in the evening. About 2 to 4 cm could accumulate overnight.

The funeral details for late city councillor Bernie Morelli have been announced. The funeral will take place Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. A visitation for Morelli is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 18 and Sunday, Jan. 19
1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at P.X. Dermody Funeral Home (1919 King St. E.)

Morelli passed away Tuesday night after a long illness. He was 70 years old, Moreilli serves as Ward 3 councillor since 1991.

Enbridge Pipelines Inc. is expanding the amount of oil running through a decades-old Hamilton area pipeline by tens of thousands of barrels a day — and the city is upset it wasn't consulted over the project.

The oil giant is in the midst of expanding the flow through the almost six-decades old Line 7 pipeline, which runs from Sarnia to the Westover Terminal in Flamborough. The line had been carrying 147,000 barrels per day, but will soon be carrying 180,000 barrels per day, an increase of about 22 per cent. Read Adam Carter's full story.

For the world and national headline's, give CBC's AM Express a listen:

ICYMI: A crazy prank in NYC to support a new movie with a devil baby. Funny, and terrifying at the same time.
