Hamilton Daystarter: Everything you need to know Monday

Well, there's no wind chill today. 3 C to start your work week and that temperature will warm up as the day progresses.

And I recommend you grab an umbrella on your way out the door. There's a good chance Hamilton will have some showers (in January??? Yes, in January) later this afternoon.

It was the Tina Fey and Amy Pohler show... errr, the Golden Globes last night. Did you tune in, Hamilton? Let us know what you thought the winners, the fashion and the hosts on Twitter at @CBCHamilton.

January 13 is a special day. It's Make Your Dream Come True Day. Awww. It might be sappy, but let it give you a kick to work towards something you want today.

A reminder that garbage bag limits are lifted starting today until Wednesday to make up for cancelled service last week.

No delays to report on GO Transit from Hamilton eastbound so far this morning.

At 9 a.m.:

Still some congestion in the core along James, King, Main and John streets. Leave a bit of extra time if you're leaving now and that's where you're going.

At 8:30 a.m.:

Highways still moving well, again with the exception the stretch between Walkers Line and Bronte in Burlington.

In town, King Street East is slow moving between Victoria and Dundurn. The base of the Jolley Cut leading onto John Street is also moving slowly.

At 8 a.m.:

No new issues on local highways. Still moving well with the exception of that one spot through Burlington.

In town, also moving well. A bit of traffic down the West 5th access this hour.

At 7: 30 a.m.:

On the highways, no accidents and traffic is moving well in most area. MTO traffic cams show a slow spot through Burlington, from Walkers Line to Bronte Road.

In town, we're starting to see some traffic along King Street East from James to Queen streets.

Rain in January. Sounds pretty wrong to me, but that's what we can expect later today. Dig out that umbrella before you head out the door.

3 C to start your Monday. That's expected to rise to a high of 6 C later today, along with a 60 per cent chance of rain in the afternoon.

Tonight, some rain ending around midnight with a low of -1 C.

It'll feel more seasonal starting tomorrow. Tuesday has a high of 1 C in store for us and maybe some flurries. We'll see a steady drop back to winter temperatures throughout the week.

A special city council meeting today to discuss declaring Hamilton as a "disaster area" in order to receive relief funding from the provincial government. The provincial deadline to apply for funding is tomorrow.

That meeting begins at 1 p.m. and our city hall reporter Samantha Craggs will be there. Follow her live updates on Twitter, @SamCraggsCBC.

St. Joseph's Hospital experienced closures and cancelled surgeries last week because of weather-related flooding. Yesterday, the hospital invited reporters in to take a look at the progress to getting the hospital back to full service. Take a look.

Take 15 minutes of your time today to listen to heartfelt and candid conversations from Hamilton-based Canadian Forces veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder. The string of suicides from current and former soldiers in late 2013 raised questions about the support available to help veterans deal with the affects of haunting memories.

For all the day's world headlines, give CBC's AM Express a listen.

A spring-like day, and a gorgeous shot of the city to start it. Thanks to Ryan McGreal (@RyanMcGreal) for this image of the sunrise over the city.
