Hamilton will move into holiday mode after today. It's the last day of school for 2013 for students (a PA day tomorrow). University and college students have packed up and gone back to their home cities until the new year. Bring on the holiday cheer!

The city is still mourning the loss of well-respected police officer Staff. Sgt. Ian Matthews. A book of condolences is available for the public to sign in Central Station at 155 King William Street.
No delays to report on GO Transit this morning.
Still a pretty light commute this morning (early Christmas gift?). The Jolley Cut heading into the lower city is a bit heavy, as is John Street. York Blvd. from James to Dundurn Castle is also a bit heavy.

Not a chilly morning out this Thursday – the temperature is sitting at -2 C for now, with a high of 3 C today.
The weather is going to take a turn tomorrow. We're expecting rain and a high of 4 C, dropping to 1 C in the afternoon. If some of that rain freezes, it could mean a messy commute home Friday evening.
Former colleagues and friends are speaking out about what a great man and officer Staff Sgt. Ian Matthews was. He shot himself Tuesday afternoon inside the Central Police station. He died in hospital later that night. Read reporter Adam Carter's piece on Matthews.
The number of family doctors in Hamilton is on the rise, according to the city's doctor recruiter.
There are currently 367 family doctors practicing in Hamilton, eight off from the provincial recommended guideline of 375 for a city this size. That's a far cry from 2007, when Hamilton was about 40 off the guideline.
Here are three major stories to watch unfold today. A coroner's jury will release their verdict in the inquest into Ashley Smith's death. The verdict on her death could go three ways: accident, suicide or homicide (meaning her death was preventable).
The National Energy Board will released its final report on the Enbridge Northern Gateway project, including recommendations as to whether the government should approve the 6.5-billion project. It proposes to build two pipelines stretching 1,177 kilometres from Bruderheim, Alta., to Kitimat, B.C.
And finally, the Supreme Court will rule on how police cooperate in SIU investigations on fatal shootings. Watch cbc.ca for updates on that story.
