A 20-year-old woman is facing drunk driving charges after a three-vehicle crash in east Hamilton.

Around 11:50 p.m. on Friday, emergency crews rushed to the intersection of Barton Street East and Sherman Avenue North, responding to reports of a collision involving three cars.

One of the drivers appeared to be intoxicated, said Staff Sgt. Scott Balinson of the Hamilton police.

She was transported to hospital with minor injuries and then taken into police custody.

Her passenger required stitches, police say.

Police have charged a 20-year-old Hamilton woman with impaired driving in the incident. Her bail was opposed because she had outstanding driving offences, Balinson said.

"It appears that the impaired driver was not directly responsible for the collision," he noted. "That's unusual."
