Hamilton Bulldogs Mike Blunden and Patrick Holland have been called up to play for the Montreal Canadiens. Canadiens General Manager Marc Bergevin announced Monday that the two would make the trip from Hamilton.
The two should be available to play for the Canadiens on Tuesday night when the team plays the Edmonton Oilers. They'll replace two Canadiens injured in a 2-1 loss Saturday against the Nashville Predators. Forward Daniel Briere has been diagnosed with a concussion after being hit from the blindside by Predators forward Eric Nystrom.
In the same game forward Brandon Prust was knocked out of the game midway through the third period when he fell awkwardly into the end boards in the Nashville zone. The Canadiens announced he has an upper-body injury and would be re-evaluated Sunday.
Blunden, 26, has recorded three points and four penalty minutes in three games with Hamilton this season and is currently tied for the team lead in goals. The Toronto native split last season between Hamilton and Montreal. In 54 regular season games with the Bulldogs, the 6'4", 214-pound forward recorded 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) and 76 penalty minutes. In five regular season games with the Canadiens, Blunden recorded no points and four penalty minutes. He was originally selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round (43rd overall) in the 2005 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
Holland, 21, has recorded two points and no penalty minutes in four games with Hamilton this season and currently leads the team in plus/minus at +4. Last season, in 69 regular season games with the Bulldogs, the 6'0", 175-pound forward recorded 28 points and eight penalty minutes. He was originally selected by the Calgary Flames in the seventh round (193rd overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
