C.J. Gable scores 2 touchdowns as Hamilton beats Winnipeg in second straight game

C.J Gable scored two touchdowns as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats beat Winnipeg 37-14 on Saturday afternoon to continue their mastery of the struggling Blue Bombers.
Hamilton (4-4) won its third straight overall and third this season over the Bombers before 13,138 sun-drenched spectators at Alumni Stadium. The Ticats cemented the season series with another meeting Nov. 2 in Winnipeg.
Hamilton, second in the East behind the Toronto Argonauts (5-3), earned a 37-18 victory last week over Winnipeg at Investor Group Field. The Ticats' offence looked good early, then went into a lull in the second half before Gable's four-yard TD run at 12:52 of the fourth capped a seven-play, 70-yard drive.
Hamilton quarterback Henry Burris was 23-of-35 passing for 318 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.
Winnipeg (1-7) lost its sixth straight and its record after eight games is its worst since going 0-8 in 1998. Outside of Chad Simpson's 44-yard TD run in the fourth, it was an otherwise lacklustre performance offensively in Marcel Bellefeuille's first game as offensive co-ordinator. He replaced the fired Gary Crowton last week after joining the franchise as a consultant.
Winnipeg's offence came in ranked last overall in points scored and second-last in net yards as Hall, veteran Buck Pierce and Justin Goltz have all taken turns starting at quarterback.
Hall started his second straight game but suffered a hand injury on Winnipeg's opening series, completing one of two passes for four yards. Pierce took over until being replaced by Goltz early in the fourth with the Bombers trailing 27-7.
But the quarterback changes didn't really inject any life into the Bombers, prompting injured Calgary slotback Nik Lewis to tweet: "I wonder if anyone on Winnipeg cares about anything more than a paycheque?" Later, Lewis tweeted: "I made the comment because as a fan of this game I just don't see passion on their side. 24-0 early is not impossible to overcome."
Half-time advantage
Dan LeFevour and Dee Webb scored Hamilton's touchdowns. Luca Congi added the converts and three field goals.
Sandro DeAngelis had two field goals and a convert for Winnipeg. Mike Renaud added a single.
Webb's 32-yard interception TD return cemented Hamilton's 24-6 half-time advantage. Winnipeg's only points came on field goals of 32 and 14 yards by DeAngelis, the first coming at 12:55 of the second after the Bombers went two-and-out upon recovering a fumbled punt return at the Ticats' 23-yard line.
DeAngelis recovered the ensuing kickoff to set up the second field goal at 14:57 as Winnipeg finished with just 98 net yards and five downs in the half. The Bombers were brutal in the first with five total offensive plays and no first downs.
Hamilton opened the scoring with an imaginative call. After taking a handoff on an end round, receiver Onrea Jones threw back to quarterback LeFevour, who went 29 yards for the TD at 3:16 of the first.
After Congi's 41-yard field goal, Burris found Gable on a 10-yard TD strike on the quarter's final play to put Hamilton ahead 17-0.
