The city is reminding residents about programs that are in place to help Hamiltonians still cleaning up from last week's wild summer storm.

In a release sent out on Friday, the city said household waste collection limits will be waived until the end of Monday. On that day, the city says, it will decide whether to reinstate normal restrictions.

The city has also waived fees for dropping off waste at transfer stations and community recycling centres until the end of Saturday.

The city says senior and residents who have no insurance should call 905-546-3057 to get help with their storm cleanup needs.

It is also offering grocery cards to low-income residents who lost food during the power outages caused by the storm. The cards are available at food banks and city-run seniors' centres, as well as the munipal service centres in Flamborough and Glanbrook.

To demonstrate their eligibility, applicants must provide their name, address and family size and proof of their income level, such as a social assistance stub, pay stub or pension stub.

Cards will be given out until the end of Monday while supplies last. The city says it will consider extending the program.
