The St. John's IceCaps snapped an eight-game home losing streak by blanking the Hamilton Bulldogs 5-0 at Mile One Centre on Friday night.
The IceCaps scored three times on their first six shots, chasing Bulldogs goalie Robert Mayer just over eight minutes into the game.
At the other end, Mark Dekanich stopped 23 shots for the shutout.
St. John's remains 11 points out of the playoffs in the East, while Hamilton is last in the Western Conference.
The two teams meet again Saturday night. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
