Fire in Hamilton's east end causes $200,000 in damages

A Thursday house fire in Hamilton's east end resulted in $200,000 in damages, but left nobody injured.

Around 4:45 p.m., fire crews responded to a call on Balmoral Avenue North near Dunsmure Road, just northeast of Gage Park.

Firefighters noticed flames coming from a second-floor window and were able to quickly extinguish the fire, according to a news release from the Hamilton Fire Department.

As of Friday morning, officials had not determined how the fire started, said Claudio Mostacci, a spokesperson for the fire department.

He said nobody was home at the time of the fire.
