Officials investigating suspicious fire in east Hamilton

The Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating a suspicious fire that started in an apartment building in east Hamilton Tuesday night.

Police and fire crews were called to 2 Oriole Cres. near Britannia avenue around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

A small fire had started in an empty unit in the building. Fire official Claudio Mostacci said firefighters had no trouble getting inside and putting out the flames.

"They were quickly able to extinguish it," Mostacci said, adding that damage to unit came in around $500.

Firefighters deemed the fire suspicious because no one was living in the building. The Ontario Fire Marshal's office has been called in to investigate.
