Mike and Ellen Scott had to bring their son Ciaran to see the Grey Cup Saturday.
"Football is the reason he exists," Ellen said, laughing.
She isn't kidding. She and Mike met back in 2002 when working security for TiCats games at Ivor Wynne. The rest, as they say, is history.
Without the cup, Ciaran (who is almost three) wouldn't be here — so his parents brought him down to Bayfront Park to see it as part of the Grey Cup 100 tour.
To celebrate the cup's 100th anniversary, the CFL is bringing it across Canada — mostly by train.
Each stop features CFL greats talking about their experiences and signing autographs, historic CFL memorabilia, and of course, the Grey Cup itself.
"It's just such a major milestone," Mike said. "Everything here was just so well done."
Ciaran seemed to think so, too. He did manage to catch one game at Ivor Wynne before the stadium was shuttered at the end of October — but was a bit scared, according to his parents.
Governor General Earl Grey originally commissioned the Grey Cup for $48 back in 1909. The trophy has been awarded each year except for 1916 to 1918 because of the First World War and in 1919 because of a rights dispute.
The Tiger Cats have captured the cup eight times — and seven more times through various incarnations throughout history. The last time they won a cup was in 1999.
