New districts are for federal elections

The commission examining federal electoral ridings in Hamilton has redrawn its proposed boundaries, and it's having another public hearing to discuss them with residents.
The Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Ontario initially proposed a new riding known as Waterdown-Glanbrook. It also proposed a riding called Ancaster, which included the developed area of Ancaster and parts of Hamilton Centre and Hamilton Mountain.
But after public feedback, the commission has new ideas. It is now proposing the following ridings:
- Ancaster-Flamborough-Glanbrook: A primarily rural electoral district surrounding the urban area of Hamilton. It includes rural Ancaster and would be situated above the Niagara Escarpment. The urban areas south of Rymal Road would be included with urban electoral districts.
- Hamilton West-Dundas: Includes the former Township of Dundas and the part of the city north of the escarpment and west of Wentworth Street.
- Hamilton East: Includes the part of the city east of Wentworth Street, north of the escarpment and west of Grays Road to Highway 8 and west of Centennial Parkway South to the escarpment.
- Hamilton Mountain West: Includes the part of the City of Hamilton lying south of the Niagara Escarpment, east of the hydroelectric transmission line, north of the hydroelectric transmission line and Twenty Road East to Miles Road and north of the hydroelectric transmission line to Upper Gage Avenue, and west of Upper Gage Avenue to the Lincoln Alexander Parkway and west of Upper Sherman Avenue to the escarpment.
- Stoney Creek-Mountain East: Comprised of the city lying east of Grays Road to Highway 8, east of the Centennial Parkway South to the Niagara Escarpment, east of Upper Sherman Avenue to the Lincoln Alexander Parkway, and east of Upper Gage Avenue to the hydroelectric transmission line, north of the hydroelectric transmission line to the east boundary of the City of Hamilton, and west of the east boundary of the City of Hamilton.
The meeting is happening because the commission has made substantial revisions to the proposed boundaries, Justice George Valin, chair of the commission, told CBC Hamilton.
"As a result of what we heard from the public, we decided we should make a substantial revision to the proposal."
The hearing will be Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, 1224 Upper James St.
The commission is also accepting written submissions by email to ontario@rfed-rcf.ca or by calling 1-855-747-7224.
